Freshen up with Room Candles

September 25th, 2008

While it is important to have the best bed sheets, comforters, duvets, etc., if your bedroom doesn’t smell pleasant then the whole comfort level of the room is diminished greatly. I can’t imagine ever getting comfortable in a stinky room.

These Modern Candles by Jonathan Adler can be a quick fix to your suffering olfactory senses. My personal favorite is the Big Sur Candle. According to www.pillowsandthrows.com, the Big Sur “blends crisp bergamot, rich vetiver and warm cedar wood & nutmeg. Imagine a climb up one of the high ridges and take in the spectacular coastline and tree lined valleys.”

Jonathan Adler Candles are great for parents, pet owners or just about anyone who wants to make any room in their house smelling fresh and wonderfu.

You can find Modern Candles by Jonathan Adler at www.pillowsandthrows.com for $38.

Bedrooms Everywhere are Getting a Face-lift

September 16th, 2008

I’ve wanted to change up my bedroom a little lately, but I really didn’t want to splurge and completely redecorate. Instead of a complete redecoration, my bedroom simply got a Velvet Throw Pillowsface-lift…I decided to change a few of the aesthetics…new throw pillows (see picture) and a new rug to tie it all together.

I love how I didn’t have to gut the whole room to get a totally different feel. During my “face-lift” operations, I thought of a few other ways to spruce up a room without breaking the bank:

1.  Change up your duvet cover. You can find great deals on duvets, so you can have many to suit your every mood!

2.  Rearrange the room. Sometimes all you need is a change in landscape. I suggest you draw out your plan before you start moving furniture around. Trust me; it’ll save your back.

3.  Add some extra color. Bright colors combined with neutrals in the bedroom will never go out of style.

Good luck with your endeavors and remember — bedroom decorating doesn’t have to be a chore and if you don’t like what you’ve done, you can always start over and try again!

Camping in Comfort

June 9th, 2008

This week, once again, tuckncover is urging readers to get out of bed. A suggestion that we don’t make lightly! However it IS summertime - which inevitably means camping trips for several of our more adventurous readers. But just because you are spending time roughing it in the great outdoors doesn’t mean you have to compromise on comfortable sleep. The North Face has a wide selection of superior sleeping bags for a variety of outdoor getaways. Pictured is the Kilo Bag, a lightweight down design ideal for backpacking and camping excursions in mild conditions. Enjoy a silky nylon taffeta lining, down filled draft and comfort face tube and ground level side seams. Getting Out of Bed

May 29th, 2008

Today we attempt to answer our own rhetorical question ‘why get out of bed?’ (You know the question just below our clever title/logo…) Well, if you read our blog you will understand that there are precious few reasons to ever get out of bed. Especially if you’ve invested in some high thread count sheets or super-soft microsuede comforters (see our last entry). One pretty good reason to throw off the blanket and hop down from that memory foam mattress is comfy Elin linen from www.designpublic.com. Bold Elin throw blankets and pillow cases emphasize natural fibers and basic colors that are always in style. The Elin line is pre-washed for a soft, broken-in appeal; fabric guaranteed to remain durable wash after wash. Get out of bed – and jump into the stylish, classic designs of Elin throw blankets and shams from $120 - $178.

Mighty Microsuede

May 19th, 2008

The Tuck ‘N Cover love affair with microsuede continues with this handsome block bedding pattern from www.beyondbedding.com. Microsuede is a stylish, durable alternative to suede; far more practical to clean and maintain. It’s an ideal material if you’re in a household with kids or pets. This particular set features a distinctive black and gray color palette with durable pink-tuck contrast stitching. It’s available in either king or queen sizes and comes with duvet comforter, matching bed skirt, two pillow shams and two decorative throw pillows. It’s a stylish, affordable ensemble that will compliment any modern, dark décor; also available in blue, red and brown. Buy this comfy 6-piece bedding set for only $59.99 from Beyond Bedding.

What’s In A Name?

April 22nd, 2008

Basel is a city in northern Switzerland on the Rhine River. It also happens to be the name of this groovy duvet bedding set from www.pillowsandthrows.com. Featuring a dynamic green and brown leaf print, this 100% Egyptian cotton design has precious little to do with the Swiss City. However, it does exude an abstract, international flavor that would compliment most design schemes. The Basel Duvet set comes with duvet cover and two shams; find Full/Queen for $168 or King for $208. You’ll also find coordinating accent pillows and coverlets for an array of design variations.

Putting it Together

April 11th, 2008

Quilts that incorporate a variety of color combinations make it easy to coordinate a wide range of bedding styles. All-purpose quilts like the Puzzle Handmade Cotton Quilt (pictured) offer striking versatility and fun design. Put it together with this unique poly-fill quilt available in twin or full sizes; enjoy free matching shams (one with twin, two with full). While ideal for kid’s rooms, this comfy quilt can also be used as a fun throw or an extra blanket for the guest room. Discover the missing piece in your linen collection with the Puzzle Quilt (for $29.97) from www.domestications.com.

Fan Club

April 4th, 2008

Are you a Marimekko fan? The popular linen company from Finland is constantly coming up with new, distinctive designs. The new kikku sheet set (pictured), a dynamic positive/negative fan pattern by Katsuji Wakisaka, is one of their more adventurous creations. This set includes a flat sheet, fitted sheet and two cases made of 270-thread-count cotton. A matching duvet cover and pillow shams are also available, but these sheets might benefit from more neutral accents. Try this sheet set (in Full, Queen or King) with a black or white comforter and shams for maximum effect. Buy it exclusively from www.cb2.com; available from $85 - $109.

Round Like A Record

March 27th, 2008

Being a collector of record albums (and 45’s in particular), I thought my friend Steve would really dig this bedding set by Custom Comfort. When I sent him the link his response was, ‘I’m already set for bedding. Some people are content with just a blanket and a couple of sheets.’ He knew that because I believe so strongly in better living through retail that his attitude toward additional bedding would bother me. Not to mention the fact that he so easily dismissed the super-cool Monte Carlo Chestnut record-like design. I ended up buying the twin duvet and a couple of the shams for my day bed… just because. It was the perfect accent for my back office where several of my favorite record albums are framed. The inventive pattern reverses to a 100% cotton chocolate sateen, allowing for twice the accent options. Monte Carlo Chestnut bedding is available from www.classicduvets.com in open stock for convenient mixing and matching. When Steve saw the duvet on the guest bed he had to admit that it was ‘a handsome design.’ I told him that I would be quoting him on tuckncover to which he replied, ‘Eh, who reads your blog anyway?’ Mom, do you believe this guy?!
